FINALIST in Green Building Award 2023 (Existing Buildings: Completed Projects - Institutional) and The Hong Kong Institute of Architects Annual Awards 2022/23 (Special Award - Heritage & Adaptive Re-use)

The Crop Science Laboratory on the roof of Sir Run Run Shaw Building has been selected as the FINALIST in The Hong Kong Institute of Architects Annual Awards 2022/23 (Special Award – Heritage & Adaptive Re-use) and "Existing Buildings Category: Completed Projects – Institutional" of the Green Building Award 2023).
The latest addition to the Department of Biology, the Crop Science Laboratory, supports advanced research and provides precise controlled environment for the study of bioresource and agriculture and environmental health. This project also exemplifies our commitment to quality design and a greener campus.
Green building features adopted in the Crop Science Laboratory include:
- Green roof
- Green walls of different systems with recycled water irrigation
- Low-E glass for the building envelope
- Air-quality improvement photovoltaic system
- Wind turbine
- Smart system for indoor thermal and lighting control
