Guidelines for Operation of Small Unmanned Aircraft (“SUA”) on Campus

The Small Unmanned Aircraft (“SUA”) Order is introduced under the Civil Aviation Ordinance (Cap. 448) to govern SUA operations. Operation of SUA on campus shall comply with all regulatory requirements under the SUA Order.

SUA operation on campus must be related to teaching and research purpose, university events, or building survey and inspection purposes. Commercial related activities or personal enjoyment will not be accepted.

Before conducting SUA operations on campus, approval must be sought from the Estates Office by submitting the application form together all supporting documents and email to eo@hkbu.edu.hk at least 14 working days before the date of operation.

The flight of the SUA Operation seeking approval shall be wholly within the campus boundary. All flight is prohibited over the BU Bridge at Junction Road and the bridge at Baptist University Road.

Depending on the nature of SUA operation, the operating area of the SUA should be properly segregated from people who are not taking part in or aware of the SUA operation. Applicants may borrow barriers from the Estates Office in advance for such purpose. Proper signage shall be displayed at and near the SUA operating area to alert people about SUA operation in progress.

It is the responsibility of the applicant to seek prior approval from relevant units or departments for any SUA operation conducted within their respective managed areas.

7.

In case of an incident involving operation of SUA, applicant must report this to Campus Security at Tel. 3411 7777 immediately and submit a written incident report on details of the SUA incident at the earliest time and within 24 hours of the incident.
